Garry began his martial arts career over 35 years ago following his ancestors into the fight game.
He began hid training in Birmingham in traditional Wado Ryu karate becoming successful in national and international competitions accumalating in 1978 fighting in the England team and in 1979 becoming All England Champion.
Garry joined many associations and governing bodies training and becoming close friends with many “stars ” of the martial arts world. Garry decieded to change to the explosive style of Kyokushinkai and trained in this style for many years.
With his close friendship with Clayton Murrain, Garry turned to the newly introduced Sport Karate and this still being one of the foundation styles of the H.K.A.
Garry formulated the B.S.K. But wanted to move on and the M.S.K.was formed and several years later changed to “Hickmans Kickboxing Academy” in memory of his ancestors who ran the famous “Hickmans Boxing Academy” on the fairgrounds.
Garry has been a staunch member of the AMA/WAKO for many years but also supports RCSU, BJJA, and is now midlands area representative for F.I.S.T.
